Used 1981 Music Man HD-150 Reverb Amp head with reverb serial number B013079.

This amp head is in very good condition, fully functional, cosmetically showing very slight tarnishing of the brightwork and the grille material sheds slightly when caressed. This is a very clean and intact HD-150 Reverb.

The HD-150 Reverb has 4 6L6GC power tubes, 150 watts RMS and two channels. Features include a two-band EQ on the first channel, a three-band EQ on the second channel as well as Bright and Deep switches, reverb and a Master Volume control. As with all Music Man amps it also has a Hi/Low power switch.

Additionally, exclusive to Music Man, the second channel features intensity and speed controls for - ready for this? - the ‘Phasor” circuit (the forerunner to the flanger and chorus). At the time Music Man thought the phase shifter would replace the decades old tremolo for the modulation effect. It really makes this amp stand out.

The push/pull SPEED knob/switch works in tandem with the adjacent INTENSITY knob.

By pulling the knob, you turn off the sweep and allow the phase point to be set manually by the knob. It is a little like setting a Wah-Wah at one point and leaving it there rather than working the pedal. This gives you and interesting tone variant you can control that will sound different than standard tone controls because it is phase dependent!

This design was considerably ahead of its time, a true hybrid, featuring a well-designed solid-state preamp circuit for clarity and headroom, and the output stage is where so much of the real tube-tone comes to life. The HD-150 runs its power tubes at very high voltages, upward of 700 volts DC on the plates. The half-power switch reduces output not by switching out two of the four tubes, but by reducing the B+ to drop the tubes’ efficiency.

The Music Man HD series was a favorite with luminaries like Eric Clapton and Johnny Winter. Johnny played live with his Music Mans right up to the end. Little known fact: It works amazingly well with Metal.

This is the most powerful amp Music Man ever produced. A great sounding workhorse and powerhouse in one!

“We test every used amp and pedal when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. Then we burn it in for an hour or so before we ship so that there are no surprises.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
