Description

For sale is my last fully usable "lightning bolt" nickel Gibson tailpiece / bridge combination.
I have held on to this one since the early 1970s, from some major parts scores on Parsons Steet in Kalamazoo!
Typically, since Gibson used to use large diameter Sonomatics or Flatwounds, & they cut the grooves too deep & wide for Rock & Roll strings. i had planned on buying & keeping this nickel palted one for a future SG Special or Fiebird I & Firebird III from the early 1960s. Really regret not keeping one of each of these guitars back in the 1980s....
I will also shoot pictures of the chrome plated ones from mid '65 to 1969, for newer Firebirds, SG Jrs., SG Specials, & Melody Makers.
Several of those here, including a New Old Stock chrome one! We were told by Gibson Customer Service Manager Ken Killman, that Gibson typically made changes in hardware, etc. in around May or June on existing models, & that included changing from nickel to chrome.
The Firebird pickup frame in nickel & the 2 nickel covers have been sold, but the nickel bridge, an original gold Firebird pickup frame, & a gold cover are still available, as are several Firebird tuners.
Plenty of early to mid '60s gold knobs are available!
