This Mastertone features Gibson's 1980 huge improvement in Banjo construction: Instead of the multi-ply plywood rim they used for about 16 years previously, now the rims were 5-ply Maple. Added to this was the Gibson Bell Bronze flathead tone-ring which in this case is a beefy nearly 5 lbs....
